ProForm 4.0 X Elliptical Review

Elliptical Rating: ★★★☆☆

The ProForm 4.0 X is a low-cost elliptical with incline training. It supports full-body exercise and has Quick Target Toning to easily address trouble spots. This isn’t a very durable machine, but it gets three stars for combining good-enough features with a low price.

Elliptical Hits: What You Get with the ProForm 4.0 X Cross Trainer

  • Quick Target Toning – Quick-start buttons help users efficiently target specific muscle groups.
  • Cross training – Upper-body workout bars increase calorie expenditure and tone the arms, chest, back, and torso.
  • Workout variety – The 4.0 X includes 8 personal trainer workouts. These are better than standard workouts because they take the user’s personal data and goals into account.   Additionally, a target pacer changes color to indicate when the pace needs to be stepped up or slowed down.
  • Incline – A three-position ramp targets different muscle groups and makes exercise more efficient.
  • Audio – The machine is compatible with iPods and other MP3 players.

Elliptical Misses of the ProForm 4.0 Elliptical

  • Low capacity – The 4.0 X has an advertised 250-pound user weight capacity.
  • Manual ramp – While incline training is a great option, motorized ramps are preferable to those that are adjusted manually.
  • Warranty – This machine has a poor warranty: just 90 days on parts and labor.
  • Resistance – The 4.0 only offers ten resistance levels. Sixteen or twenty levels is the norm.

Overall Rating for the ProForm 4.0 X Elliptical

The 4.0 X is a good option for a new exerciser who’s willing to upgrade within a year or so. It includes an MP3 player, personal training, and an introduction to incline training. This ProForm isn’t made of very durable parts, but it doesn’t cost much and will be well-enjoyed while it lasts.

For a more durable product, get the ProForm 890E or look into Sole ellipticals.
