Spirit eGlide Elliptical Review

Elliptical Rating: ★★½☆☆

The red and black Spirit eGlide is a relatively expensive elliptical for residential use. It also qualifies as a light commercial cross trainer. Top features of the eGlide include its high weight capacity and an above-average number of tension settings. This machine is durable and smooth-running, but it doesn’t stand out from the competition.

Elliptical Hits: Nice Features of the Spirit eGlide

  • Durability – This 230-pound machine has a 450-pound user weight capacity.
  • Long stride Like most Spirit ellipticals, this model has a long 20” stride.
  • Heavy flywheel – The eGlide has a 30-pound flywheel to promote an ultra-smooth ride.
  • Oversized pedals – Large pedals allow for re-positioning during workouts. On the eGlide, the oversized pedals are slip-resistant and help move sweat away from the body.
  • Telemetric heart monitor: The wireless pulse monitor can be used in tandem with two heart rate control workouts.
  • Great warranty – Residential owners get a lifetime warranty on the frame plus ten years of coverage on other parts and two years of labor. The commercial warranty has a shorter (but still good) parts warranty of five years.

Elliptical Misses: Why to Pass on the Spirit eGlide Elliptical Trainer

Not outstanding – The eGlide is a durable machine with great ergonomics, but it doesn’t stand out from its competitors. For instance, it relies on battery power instead of free green energy, it doesn’t have an incline or adjustable stride, and it lacks preset programs and entertainment.

Overall Rating for the Spirit eGlide Elliptical

The eGlide is best for use with personal coaching or group workouts. It lacks built-in programs that are standard on virtually all other elliptical trainers. The Spirit XE series offers better options. The XE400, for example, costs less but has an incline, built-in workouts, and a good warranty.
